How We Feed Our Goats and Grow Our Own Hay

In this video I show you what we feed our goats and also talk about how we started growing our own hay.
Year before last we planted a small patch of alfalfa. We have a small utility tractor and a 3 blade plow that we used to work it up. It's a small patch, maybe a little over an acre, but it took a good part of an afternoon to get it all worked with that small plow. Once that was done, we worked it with a small disk. After that, we pulled a broadcast seed spreader behind the tractor and planted the alfalfa seed. Once it was all spread, we used a drag harrow to work it all in. It wasn't the most ideal way to plant it, but it worked good enough. After it was planted we had a hard rain that washed some of the seeds so there were areas where the alfalfa was really thick and other areas where there is just weeds and grass growing.
We don't own our own swather or baler, so we hire it done.
The last 2 years we've been planting bromegrass in our pastures hoping to eventually get a nice grass stand. Our goal is to be able to grow the majority of our own hay some day.
