How to tube feed a baby goat
So some things to keep in mind
Goat must be 101F temp to digest milk
There are two tubes you can end up going down in the goat
One to the stomach
One to the lungs
The stomach tube is on the top so aim your tube upward when inserting
If the goat begins to swallow and is crying you can be pretty sure you are in the right position.
Listen for breathing when fully inserted, if your unsure put the end of the tube in a cup of water and look for bubbles when the goat breaths
We used 3/16" OD (outside diameter) / 1/8" ID (inside diameter hose from ace hardware
We used syringes from Amazon which are marketed for catheter bags. The hose will slip into the tip of the syringe with a little work.
Newborn goats 2-3 oz every 4 hours
1-2 weeks old 4-6 oz every 4 hours
If they begin to nurse on their own from a bottle make sure to still track how many ounces they are consuming and supplement as needed with a tube.
