"I had nothing in my life before - no income, no resources, no assets. I was extremely poor. When I was given two female goats by Farm Africa my life changed completely. The goats both had twins soon after I received them and to make some money I sold some of their offspring. With the money I bought an ox and rented some land and bought seed and fertiliser so that I could grow crops and vegetables. From that land, I started to produce more food for my family; wheat, barley and teff (a grain). Previously I could never have imagined doing this because I was unable to even borrow money to start a business or rent land as I had no assets. But now I'm actually being asked to be a guarantor when friends take out loans and they're also coming to me for advice. It's incredible how my life has changed."

"Goats are really empowering women here. All the poor women who are engaged in this programme have seen their quality of life improved tremendously. This is also because of the training they're receiving. They're now starting to plan for their futures and are building up their assets as they've been taught how to do so. They're also demanding their rights as they're becoming important members of the community - managing their income, their family. They're being seen as responsible members of the community now and are gaining respect - and this is just because of some goats. So, I can honestly say: goats empower women."
