Rescue 2 Orphaned Four Horned Antelopes Trying To Feed On A Parent Goat's Milk
On 11th April, 2020 the team received an unusual rescue call.
A tribal farmer in a remote village of Murbad in Thane district was walking along with his herd of goats while grazing. As he was about to reach his home, the herd started to disperse and he was surprised to find two baby deer-looking species tucked between goats. On a closer inspection, he found that these babies were trying to feed on a parent goat's milk.
He immediately alerted the other tribals of Murbad and the Murbad Range of the Thane Forest Department. The rescue team along with the officials sprung into action for the possible relocation of the two babies as it was suspected to be displaced from their parents and herd.
The babies were then identified as Four-horned antelope (chousingha)
After several attempts of reuniting them both the young ones had to be taken into custody for further rehabilitation.
A Rescue team of Murbad West Range and RAWW realised that the young ones were required to be hand raised in close monitoring and observation.
The team rescued both the fawns and shifted them to Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai.
The whole operation was executed under the guidance of DCF Territorial Wing of the Thane Forest Department Dr. Jitendra Ramgavkar by RFO Range Forest Officer Ramesh Rasala long with his staff assisted by team members from RAWW.
The animals were handed over to the Rescue Team of Sanjay Gandhi National Park in presence of the team incharge RFO Barabde and other team members and will be further looked upon and raised under the guidance of SGNP Vet Dr. S. Pethe untill their further rehab.
