Milking the goat and taking care of our farm animals

Every morning I start my day with milking the goats. Come along with me as I show you my milking experience. The chickens are all at various stages we have baby chicks still in the brooder, 2 month old chicks, 4 month old chickens that will start laying eggs any day now. Then there’s the adult chickens. We hatch the red ranger eggs out for our meat birds. There’s 2 Sebastopol geese 2 Khaki Campbell ducks and now 5 Welch Harlequin duckling. The ducklings are in a small cage outside with a roof to get used to the adult birds and keep them safe from predators like hawks. We have 2 Rex bunnies. Did you know Rabbit poop is great fertilizer for the garden? Goat poop is too. They can both go straight on the garden soil. Chicken poop needs to be composted for 6 months before it’s safe for the garden. Any garden scraps and kitchen scraps that aren’t rotting can go to the animals. I always check that they’re safe for them before feeding it to them. Somethings aren’t safe for goats that the other animals can eat and visa versa. Well, this is our little 1/2 acre homestead in the middle of suburban San Diego, Ca. Sapphire Skies Farm
