For a successful goat breeding or mating season to be achieved, there a number of good husbandry practices that have to be acted upon. Before bucks and does are joined, they must be in breeding condition, and the farmer must do some preparation prior to the mating season. An animal in breeding condition should be well covered but not fat and it should be obviously healthy and vigorous. Does should not be joined till they attain 12 months of age. A doe below that age is still growing and pregnancy is a tremendous strain even on an adult doe. Bucks should also not be allowed to serve till they are 9 months old.
