Snakes out in Winter!
Well this comes as a surprise! I had just told my daughter yesterday that it's be WAAAAYYY too cold for snakes. Funny, as I stepped off into the woods to grab a chunk of wood I thought "how funny would it be to roll over a log and find a snake." Well, no need to roll the log, here he is!
I looked it up, this is a Buttermilk Racer. I find his lack of pattern very interesting, almost like modern digital army camo. Racers are toted to be a bit more aggressive than your average rat snakes. He is non venomous, but also not a coward either. Video is proof enough that he was willing to stand his ground.
It was 20F last night, now it's about 50F in the sun. This guy should be holed up tight! Nope, just getting some sun! This was recorded January 8th 2017 in southeast Texas. Guess I can't let my guard down!
