Here are a few of Madera's adoptable pets. Note the name and the number if you are interested in adopting/fostering/rescue that pet. You can go to AdoptAPet.com using 93638 for the zip code search for Madera's Animal Shelter pets and on that site; you can read a little about each pet.
You can fill out an application on that site for any pet you like that is available. Adoption fee for dogs is $100 at the Madera Animal Shelter and dogs will have their full set of shots, de-wormed, and will be spay/neuter for that same fee.
Once in a while, the Madera Animal Shelter has volunteers that can transport pets to rescues or to their new homes. But, it's not always the case, so if you do not live in Madera or even in California, it's not a sure thing, but please ask if transport can be done for you by a volunteer. If you live in Florida or somewhere far from California, we have had volunteers drive the adopted dog to the air port and the dog was flown to their new home.
So, it is possible!
For the pets you see on the video that are . . . unkempt, they came into the shelter that way and since animals come and go every week (very few stay longer then that), the staff or volunteers don't have the time or man-power to clean/groom each pet, so sorry for the more scruffy looking ones.
Oh, and the Madera Animal Shelter is an ANIMAL shelter which means we have more than just dogs, we have cats and horses and we also get once in a while pigs, goats, emus, peacocks, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, fish, lizards, and many more.
