🦎🦋 This friendly and lovely lizards show us why became the icon of Formentera Mediterranean Island. Sargantana or lizard pityusa, scientifically known as podarcis pityusensis, the only species of Lizard that inhabits in the Pitiusas Islands and its islets.
The sargantanes feed on pollen, flowers, nectar, leaves and seeds, but also eat some small insects.
The peculiarity of this reptile in Formentera is that, despite preferring rocky and sunny areas, they can be found anywhere. Even in urbanized places, given its ability to adapt to our habitat. In fact, it is not weird that we are surprised by a lizard with no problem to approach us and try to determine if we can be part of its menu. However, the bites of the lizards do not hurt, so the experience apart from causing tickling, above all arouses great sympathy for these funny reptiles and incidentally confirms that it is no coincidence that this small reptile has become an icon of Formentera.
