Guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) aka cavy: originating from South America and brought to Europe by Spanish, Dutch and English traders around the conquests and colonization of the New World - they became popular pets. These animals are consumed around some parts of esp. mountaineous South America but are not eagerly consumed elsewhere owing to their pet nature (just as
dogs are not eaten outside some parts of the world, e.g. beyond Asia or some parts of Switzerland).
