UPDATE! So I skipped out on waterchanges this week My ammonia is at 2.0 ppm. Nitrite 0pmm. Nitrate 5.0 ppm any more advice on next steps I can take.

I bought a male and female. I got one of each just bit they were in the wrong marked bowl. Anyway they the male is great. The female is a little small and has a little spot on her head. Ive been trying to treat it and make her better.

I would hold off on water changes and just rely on prime. I don't water change until it hits 1ppm, and I dose prime at .5 or above. Prime will not stole your cycle or whatever it is that the rumor is. I had really good luck with Tetra safestart plus, I usually buy the big bottle for a hundred gallons, you can price match it at PetSmart on their website for like six bucks, and I dump half of that into the 10 gallon and then put just a little bit more every few days. Make sure that if you do that you don't dose the Tetra safestart until at least 24 hours after Prime. Prime will make it not work.

Oscar fish feeding time.

Has anybody ever bought one of the baby bettas from Petco, and what was your experience with them? Mine is great. But beware that gender is not always right. My baby boy is definitely a female lol. My "baby boy" is also a girl, but she's doing really well. Beware that they have started selling some really tiny ones though. My female was sold regularly, but I'm pretty sure they put her in a standard female cup. I'm experimenting with diet because shes not really growing, to the point it has me worried. She is tiny.

No but I want one! It would be awesome to see why they grow into. They had some super tiny ones though that I wouldn’t even know how to feed or how to make the filter safe enough for their tiny selves. Can I ask what you feed him? I’ve tried frozen brine shrimp but he doesn’t seem to eat them, planning on going back to petco tomorrow to try something else and was wondering what would work.

I used New Spectrum flakes for my baby boy when I got him. I didn't really think ahead when getting a baby lol But New Spectrum is a good food and made without many, if any, fillers. You can just smell the difference opening it up. I had it already since that's what I feed my tetras. He thrived just fine and now he eats the same brands pellets. Although, being in the community tank if I don't feed him first he still tries to eat the flakes if I'm not watching lol

First lived a little over a year and dropped dead while being petsat by my co-workers while I was out of the country, second died of internal parasites, and third died along with a bunch of other fish in what was probably an ammonia spike. I may pick up another one this weekend actually.

My son brought this gal home from Petco approx 1 month ago - she was about 3/4” and very light in color on day 1. This is her, currently residing in a 1 gal bowl while I’m cycling a 5 gal Taj Mahal for her. She’s growing like a weed and her colors are becoming vivid.(That’s specks in the glass of the bowl - not white flecks on the baby).
