The FDA and the EPA are both updating their advice for pregnant women and children when it comes to eating fish. I'm Rachelle Grossman with your latest health news. Due to concerns over rising levels of mercury in fish, the federal agencies have already established maximum guidelines for the amount of fish to eat, but until now, they haven't recommended a minimum amount. Now, new advice suggests that women who are pregnant, might become pregnant, or are breastfeeding eat 2 or 3 servings of a variety of fish each week. The agencies also recommend that young children eat 2 to 3 servings of fish since their research shows that fish provides a number of health benefits. They recommend types with lower levels of mercury like: salmon, shrimp, pollock, light canned tuna, tilapia, catfish and cod.
