Here are some example topics: Cleaning question: how often do you clean your tanks' gravel bottoms, what do you use, and do you ever have nitrate spikes afterward? I cleaned the gravel in my 5 g two days ago and lost a fish today after qting him because I noticed he was not well after the clean. Cleaned my 13g last night and nitrates were too high today after retesting. (Did have slight ammonia.

I think due to deteriorating plants, maybe?) Doing water change to get it back down. The 13g had shown it was cycled for two weeks. 5g would show nitrates between 0 and 25. 13g has only 4 fish and a shrimp. Both tanks filtered and heated. Both were cycled fish in with close monitoring. Thank you. http://bettafishcaretaker.com/my-betta-fish-wont-eat-im-worried/

Hello everyone. I know I have been asking a lot questions lately. I am a college student with her first Betta. I haven't had much luck with past fish. I love my little Betta, and I don't wanna hurt him. I've looked up everything I could think of online. Are there any tips I should know? Are there any mistakes that first time Betta owners make? I just wanna know everything and make sure I have everything. Also, the reason the tank is small is because the limit we are allowed to have in the dorms is 1-3 gallons.

You're off to a great start just by reading as much as you can. But if the limit is 3 gallons, then get a 3 gallon tank, IMO. Tanks that small have trouble starting a cycle, so be sure to change the water every other day. Do a 50% water change when you do and make sure to clean the gravel too. I didn't see a heater in your pic, but it's a great idea to get a really small heater for your tank. Even if your dorm is warm, it doesn't matter. Still needs a heater. Water temperature is naturally a few degrees cooler than room temperature. The heater will help to prevent temperature fluctuations as well. Fluctuations in temperature can stress the fish out really badly, leaving them susceptible to infection. Hope I helped a little!

A heater is coming today or tomorrow. The only reason I'm skeptical is because I heard mini heaters heat the tank too much and too fast
