Inconsistent night time temperatures will effect your pond water.
Which will affect the metabolic rate of your pond fish. So you should not start feeding. Until we have consistent nighttime temperatures over 5° C (digestion of the added fish food will be okay at 5°).
If you start feeding your pond fish too early, you will only have problems. The problems will be harmful bacteria growing inside the fish (in the intestine). As the enzymes are not warm enough and can't process the food (so it starts rotting). Feeding should only start when the fish are able to process the food. Or you could end up with a dead fish or more from bacteria infections.
How to start feeding your pond fish (only once the water is warm enough). Start of slow and stick to a cold water fish food (always read the label).
The fish may come up and ask for food but hold on to your emotions and wait (its for there own good). The most important thing to remember is the fish are only just waking up (so lets not up set them). Eventually we will be able to feed everyday.
Once you start feeding start very slowly and build up the amount you feed them. They will be taking more time to eat this time of the year so fed a little bit and wait (check the fish are eating the food quickly almost as the food hits the surface). They are very hardy cold-blooded creatures and will be ok with out you adding food.
