Apple Snail Feeding on Fish Flakes

A very interesting video showing Apple Snail Feeding on Fish Flakes. These are fully grown and sexually mature snails who have laid eggs several times.

Watch as the snail siphons food off the surface of the water. Whenever I feed fish, I turn off filters so the fish don't have to struggle to get to the food and also so that the filter doesn't pick up unnecessary food that the fish actually want to eat. The fish have learned that the second the filter goes off the food is coming. It turns out that Apple snails have also learned the same thing! Proving that Apple snails are intelligent creatures and one of my personal favorite aquatic friends.

He/She uses the foot as a siphon to firstly pull in the food and holds it with it's foot. It also uses it's mouth to create a little bit of a flow in the water. Once it has as much as it can hold watch as he turns his mouth towards his foot and then eats the food. BRILLIANT!

Please forgive the moments when the camera goes out of focus.
