8 Important facts to know about Zebra Danios

1. Origin
Originating from several places in central Asia, such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar,

2. Water Requirements
Water pH should be between 7.0 and 7.8, alkalinity between 3° and 8° dkH (50 ppm to 140 ppm), and temperature between 70° and 78° F.

3. Color
Most species of danio are brightly colored and come in colorations of blue, red, yellow, silver and white.

4. Hardy Fish
Danios are schooling fish.So,you should buy at least 5 to 6 of these small fish. Most species grow upto 2 inches and are typically surface oriented. Most danios tolerate a wide range of water temperature,making them one of the best beginner fish. Zebra Danio can live up to 5 years.

5. DIET & FEEDING
Danios are omnivores and will readily accept most flake based foods and small aquarium pellets. Their diet should also be supplemented with live frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms and tubifex worms.

6. Tank size
Danios thrive in groups.So dont keep alone in a tank.Ideally you should have at least five or six danios, in a tank that holds at least 10 gallons (38 liters).

7. Tankmates
Normally, zebra danios are a peaceful fish.Good potential tankmates may include barbs, corydoras catfish, similar-sized gouramis, rainbows, clown and yoyo loaches, and swordtails.

8. Breeding
Danios are pretty easy to breed, and perfect for beginners to gain some experience with. They are egg scattering fish that commonly spawn in group. As with many fish, there is a possibility of the parents eating their eggs after they are laid.
Within 48 hours, the eggs will begin to hatch, and you can feed the newborn fry commercially prepared fry food, daphnia, baby brine shrimp or finely crushed dry foods.
