Feeder Fish- The Untold Story

Dislike 0 Published on 8 Feb 2014

A small revelation of the effects of how common goldfish are treated. Millions of goldfish die every day because of the way they are bred and housed. They are sold cheap and carry the label of "feeder fish," which is supposed to make them less of an animal and easier to keep in these conditions. Most of them are babies or juveniles, and they die daily, either at the pet store where they die from disease, parasites and an overcrowded tank; in the small bag on the way to the pet store; or once they arrive at their most common final destination where they are used as live food for turtles and other fish.

These are only two of the goldfish that I saw suffering every day when I worked at a certain pet store. I took some of them home and attempted to nurse them back to health, and then give them to people who would take care of them. But of the 10-20 that died every day in the store's tank alone, my efforts hardly made a difference.
