How to Care for the Pleco or Plecostomus or algae eater this is a great fish to have and they can be rewarding if you meet their standards. These fish are the vultures of the aquarium to speak. They love their greens are well too, so you need to make sure you have enough of it for them. they do have the nick name algae eater for a reason and if you can't supply enough food for these fish you need to supplement their diet with some type of algae either it be wafer or pellet or flake. A lot of these fish that are sold in the pet stores get huge, and i personally i don' think they should be sold like they are, they need big aquariums. but there are some smaller species out there. this is the albino bushy nose pleco and these guys tend to stay small. and i think they are one of the best plecos to have due to size color and cost. there are more varieties out their as well. i like these fish because you can keep them with almost anything if they're big enough. i've seen them go in with red devils pacus Oscars African chiclids almost anything. they do come from the amazon basin and do prefer water that is around a pH of 6.5 but they are a hardy fish and can withstand a beating though i'm not telling you that you should be hard on them. do you best to provide for this fish and it will reward you. oh yeah they love to grave on driftwood.
