Ram Cichlid Care, Tank Mates, Size Aquarium. This is my favorite food to feed ram cichlids. It’s freeze dried brine shrimp in cubes.

The color in these blue ram cichlids is crazy awesome! I can't get over just how beautiful these fish actually are. Taking care of Ram cichlids really isn't that tough once your understand the habitat and lifestyle of these fish. They are above a beginner level aquarist level but I think if beginners do some research that they could keep them pretty easily.

It's not necessarily the fish that hard to care for it's the tank mates that most people want to keep with these fish. Because these fish look like they would be somewhat aggressive and hold down their own territory is actually completely the opposite. These fish actually really nice and timid and other tank mates will actually push them around and it creates a lot of aggression.

Ram cichlids are absolutely beautiful fish and will add a great vibrant addition to your aquarium. I had to get together this video on how to take care of them and setting up an aquarium and what size you should expect to use and finding friends to have his roommates for them.

Crushed coral/araganite will raise pH, but at 7.8 you aren't probably dissolving significant amounts. One way (but care must be used, add very slowly) is with kalkwasser. It adds alkalinity (raises and maintains pH) as well as calcium. If you are trying to avoid chemicals all together, the easiest way to raise pH is increased circulation and use of a protein skimmer. You can further enhance the pH boost from a skimmer by plumbing it to draw fresh air. You do have to take precautions from pollution or contaminants being drawn in if you use the outside air.

I have this rock that is a bunch of different shells stuck together... can't remember what exactly it's called. Would something like that be tank safe and raise the ph? I'll try to find it and get a pic once the little is down for nap time.

That's why I am wondering if this rock I have made up of shells would work or not.... It would look pretty cool and make extra territory for my hermits, snail, and hawkfish.

I have yet to find one! Not sure how big they get.. my cray eats everything and anything you put in the tank. Not super aggressive but if something gets too close it will try to get it but I imagine dwarfs wouldn't be a problem unless it was like guppy fry..

I had an Australian blue and it was maybe 5-6 inches and was pretty cool but it was just a little too big for my 55 cichlid tank. He kept destroying everything.
