Beta Fish Care - PART 2

I rinse the bamboo plants under cool water just to remove the "slime" that builds up on them through the week. Place rinsed plants into fresh Beta bowl. GENTLY scoop Beta from old water into fresh bowl. You do NOT need a net if your hands are clean and you are careful not to let the Beta stress out while switching him over to the new bowl. If you choose to net your Beta, be as delicate as possible, and gently submerge net into fresh bowl, moving net away from Beta slowly, to preserve his fins. Nets tend to shock these fish. Alternates to nets are your hand, or a small Dixie cup (draining excess dirty water). Once Beta is in his fresh bowl, put him in an area of your home where sunlight hits the bowl for Beta AND plant health. I pour the dirty water into my outside plants for excellent fertilizer before cleaning the old bowl. Give your Beta about an hour to adjust to his new environment before feeding him that day. Beta fish only need a few "pieces" of food per day, especially if they have plants to nibble on. If you over-feed a Beta, you will either have a dead fish or you'll be cleaning the bowl more than once weekly.
Remember, having at least two plant stems crossing within the bowl allows your Beta to SLEEP, as he needs something to "hide" in and rest his body on. In the wild, Beta fish live in shallow water, among grassy plants.
