Peacock Bass Aquarium Care - Fish Species Guide

Most peacock bass keepers use a couple canister filters on their big aquariums. The Sunsun 404b is a beast filter for a fair price. I highly advise them. Here is a link:

Thanks for the add :) I currently have 5 Betta boys. The most recent one (Theon) was dying the day I brought him home. I thought he was going to be DEAD the following morning. He didn't! After 3 days of some TLC he made a full recovery. Jon Snow is slowly getting over fin rot. He's the most skittish of the 5.

You need a female so you can name her “Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons."

I know right?😆 I was intending to purchase a female Koi (was going to name her Cersei)...but the depressed and dying 75% off Red Dragon Plakat male caught my eye and I couldn't just leave him...so I gave him priority over the flamboyant, healthy female Koi Betta.

Overall this store does a decent job trying to keep their bowls clean but they stock TOO MANY!! so many Bettas just sit week after week through countless water changes, people lifting and moving their tiny prisons around... and he was a short fin male among such beauties like the Rose Gold's, Opals, rose tails, black orchids, etc. The stress took its toll I guess. He went belly up at the bottom of his tank with very labored breathing after rising and sinking like a stone for a couple of hours that first evening in his new tank. I was sure he was hours away from death. I did what I could....said a prayer...and was stunned to see him balancing on his Betta leaf the following morning. Over the next 2 days he got stronger and got over his swim bladder disorder.

Just picked up another 20 gal. for $10 , it will be my 4th tank and I'm only about 90 days into it. As they say , I'm gettin down with the sickness!! As long as you can keep your water parameters in check, you can have tons. I am lazy and hate algae, so give away a 5 gallon bucket every few months. It really doesn't matter, they're going to breed and overstock you anyways. I recommend at least 1 or 2 platy to eat some of the fry, a siphon for frequent water changes, and a good strong filter. I have about 50 in my 20 gallon right now.

My personal max of guppies/20g would probably be 20. The key is water change, water change, water change. I do small water changes frequently, between 5 - 10% daily and that's only get siphon up detritus and uneaten food. Lots of plants help as well. I have bare bottom tanks so its easier on the cleaning. I over filtrate - using Fluval 50 and a large sponge filter. I do have some corys and SAE for my clean-up crew. Oh and I keep the males and females separate. Remember any fish will stress when you overcrowd and if you have an outbreak of external/internal parasites etc...that's a lot of fish you'll need to watch and treat. If you decide on an all male tank, there be lots of fin nipping and chasing which could also stress out the fish. If you decide on a a mixed gender tank - you'll have a lot of fry. Hope this helps.

I’d put 20 males in there and call it a Day. If you are gonna put females I’d start with a trio(1 male , 2 females) but realize you will wake up on morning and wonder why you have 12 tanks, an Aquabid account, and 30 shipping boxes in a fishroom that used to be a game room. Are there any other tankmates? Decorations? Maybe they care nervous in a new environment and just kind of schooling together as a defense mechanism. I'd give them a couple days to settle.

As Above poster said, give them a few days to settle in. When I move fish from one tank to another in my fish room they do the same sometimes. Your fish have travelled far to get to you, it is expected for them to be nervous.

Maybe they're just stressed? You can wait till they get used with the water or give them stress coat or a pinch of salt. Kinda freakin out ,fed my tank this mornin as usual, all looked well , an hour later all 20 of my fish are huggin the plants at the surface nearly motionless. Did 10 % water change immediately. Very nervous now.

Either a contaminant got in there like an oil/lotion that covers their gills or ammonia is through the roof.... may require a big water change, but test first to see what’s going on. If they are at the surface it’s an oxygen issue most. Likely. I would an an air stone or lower the water level(if using HOB or Canister) to get a greater surface disruption.

I did 40 % water change and about 50% of the fish have returned to normal behavior . I think you might be right about the contaminants I was using a kitchen knife and cutting board to prepare the food this morning and there could have been some fat or oil left on there that I didn't notice. Holy crap I gotta be careful.
