Black Tetra Fish Care, Food, Tank Mates & Size. This is the best food I’ve found for Black Skirt Tetras. They love the food and it's a high quality brand. Here is a link if your interested:

Known as the Black Skirt Tetra or the Black Widow Tetra. These fish grow to an average of around 2 to 2 1/2 inches long. In the first year of their life they like to be in larger schools to give them a little more stability. But after that year they kind of grow a little more independent and do not need that large of a school anymore.
When you're trying to find a roommate for this fish or a tank mate you're going to want to find a fish that doesn't have very fancy fins. Most tetras have the want or desire to nip at these fish and they will eventually kill them.

Invest in a quarantine tank if possible. Saved me a bunch of money on meds and if I would've done it sooner, I wouldn't have slightly blue tinted seals in my tanks. I have a question about Quarantine tanks. I see this recommend all the time for people with Live Planted tanks as most meds will kill plants. My concern is would the main tank not be contaminated with what ever the fish got. Back in the day I was always told to treat the hole tank but now that I'm into live plants it's become a challenge for sure...lol Could you give me some insight into this.
Hope you don't might me asking.
This is treating the whole tank. When an infected fish is put into a tank, that whole tank must be treated. This is why a seperate qt tank is better. Medicating a 10g is much cheaper than a 60g. Once cleansed of illness the new clean fish can be put into the good tank.
If I'm treating ick, I'll only treat the quarantine tank and raise the temp in the affected tank to about 86 over the course of 4 hours. I'll monitor both tanks and do water changes every two days at 50 percent focusing on mid and bottom column. Temp in main tank stays at 86-88f for 2 weeks. I'll keep pulling fish into the qt tank.
For fungus I'll treat the main tank at half or less dosage and treat the qt full dose. Pulling fish into the qt that show signs. 30 percent water changes on both tanks everyday. Haven't lost anything in a while.
Ugh. I should totally do a qt tank!! BUT I have no room for one... I could totally turn my 10g tank into a QT but then I'd have to re-home my male betta. My daughter would be devastated. Soooooo... Gonna be taking my chances and adding fish right to my main tank and pray to God that nothing happens...
