In order to conserve the environment of the natural fish breeding ground in the Halda river PKSF undertook a Value Chain sub-project titled “Conservation of Natural Fish Spawning Ground of Halda River” under the project “Promoting Agricultural Commercialization and Enterprises (PACE)” project supported by International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Value Chain sub-project is being implemented through Integrated Development Foundation (IDF) a partner organization of PKSF. The Value Chain sub-project is providing various technical supports to conserve environment of the river. The activities like training, awareness building, patrolling environment friendly boats, involving local people’s representatives in saving the river condition, and appropriate technologies like modernization of hatching in mud ditches are being implemented through this project. The release of fish eggs has been increased significantly up to 1680 KGs in 2017 due to undertaking this activities under this project. In 20 August 2017, Halda Research Laboratory has been established in the University of Chittagong. This is the only river based research laboratory in Bangladesh. Conservation of natural environment of Halda River will not protect a river only it also contribute significantly in protecting natural resources, natural heritage and livelihood of the people residing.
