Today's video is a small update on my Koi. Three years ago I put the Koi in this natural pond that has no liner, no pumps, no filters, no ventilation. I built it a while ago and you can find videos on that on my channel. The Koi have evolved magnificently after I had basically freed them out of a very small private pond. The animals grew a lot in this pond even though they were already several years old at the time I go them. Now apparently they feel quite well and the Koi are spawning this summer. Heavy rains led to a raise of the water level in the pond of about 8 inch. The resulting shallow water zones are now used by the fish to spawn. The Yamabuki female keeps swimming up to the vegetation zone followed by the smaller Platinum ogon male. I am able to watch them pretty closely without disturbing them as they focus on their mission. It's been the second day of spawning now and they seem little stressed out from the hard work. But it's still amazing to watch these animals in this nearly natural environment. I was able to find a couple of eggs. They are approximately 2 mm in size and are kind of glued to the plants. I wonder how many baby Koi will hatch and I will upload more video-updates soon. Since both Koi are monochrome metallic-colored the little Koi will most likely be single-colored as well, but we will see. As they will hatch and grow up in the natural environment and not in a sterile tank I hope and assume that they should be relatively resistant and healthy later. I am really excited about how many will survive and how they look like. I will keep you updated. You can find other pond videos and landscaping videos on my channel. For updates please don't forget to subscribe! Thanks for watching and I hope the video was interesting. Until next time, I'm Carl the landscape guy.
