Swordtail Fish Breeding (Short Tail Fish)
Hello Everyone,
Hope everyone is safe at home during this COVID 19 lockdown.
I would like to thank everyone who has come to my channel to view the above video of Swordtail Fish Breeding (Short Tail Fish). I’m bored at home and my country is under COVID 19 Lockdown at the moment, no one is allowed to go out of the house. So I have a tank filled with small fishes and I thought of making them breed more babies and multiply.
This video is about Swordtail Fish Breeding (Short Tail Fish) and I’ll be posting videos regularly day by day of how the process of the Swordtail Fish’s life cycle is. I’m having these fishes from December 2019 and I don’t see any of the females getting pregnant for the last 4 to 5 months. I wonder if it’s because all different kinds of fishes are being put in one tank (Guppies, Platies, Zebra and Swordtails). So I thought of separating a Sword Tail Breeding (Short Tail Fish) pair and see if they would breed and multiply. If you’re a fish lover, then I recommend you to try making the fishes breed so that they multiply very fast and you could have a tank full of beautiful fishes. Lets see in my video journey of how many days does it take from a baby Swordtail Fish to be born and turn into an adult.

Here’s the description of the Swordtail Fish (short tail fish)
This Swordtail Fish has a scientific name as (Xiphophorus Hellerii) which is a fresh water fish and a live bearer which is related to platy fish. This swordtail fish can also be crossbred with platy fish as well. It’s native in North and Central America.
The difference between a Male Swordtail Fish and a Female Swordtail Fish is that the male grows to a maximum length of 14 centimeters (5.5 inches) and the female upto 16 centimeters (6.3 inches). The word Swordtail Fish comes because the male has a Caudal Fin (Tailfin) which looks like a sword, and the female has a short tail. These fishes are Omnivorous and eats both plants and small insects, annelid worms and crustaceans.
These swordtail fishes multiply very fast and has become a nuisance pest in a number of countries. Feral populations have established themselves in southern Africa, Natal, Hawaii, Madagascar, South Africa and Otjikoto Lake in Namibia.
The generic name “Xiphophorus” which means Sword Bearer in Greek with reference to the Caudal Fin (sword like tail).
These guys give birth from 20 to 50+ baby fishes every month. And not to forget that they are baby eaters.. They literally eat their own babies once born.
