How To Care Elephant Nose Fish | Tank-mates | Water Conditions | Maximum Size !!! Urdu/Hindi

overview
The Elephant Nose is an interesting fish that originates from the Niger River and its tributaries in Western Africa. Its body is mostly black and is irregularly shaped with a long narrow tail and what looks to be its nose however this is actually an extension of the fish's mouth. The Elephant nose uses its trunk-like extension to forage for food, communicate, move through the water and self defense. It possesses a weak electrical organ at the caudal peduncles which is used to locate food.
It requires a minimum of a 50 gallon aquarium with good water conditions. It is generally timid and reclusive, preferring a fine-gravel-bottom aquarium with plenty of plants and rocks for hiding places where it can find refuge from the light. To better appreciate this fish, many hobbyists will purchase a "ghost tube," a clear plastic tube that facilitates viewing during the day. Once accustomed to its surroundings, the Elephant Nose can become incredibly tame and trusting to the point of being hand-held. It does well with other, larger species of a peaceful nature, but may be aggressive towards those of similar or smaller size.

The Elephant Nose is carnivorous and will eat many types of meaty foods including; blood worms, chopped earthworms, brine shrimp, flake and pellet foods as well as an array of frozen meaty foods.

Scientific Name - Gnathonemus petersii

Common Names - Elephantnose Fish, Peter's Elephant

Care Level - Medium/ Difficult. This fish needs perfect water and is somewhat intolerant to medication.

Size - 9-13 inches (23-53 cm)

pH - 6 to 7.2

Temperature - 73-82*F (23-28*C)

Lifespan - 6-10 years

Origin / Habitat - They are native to the slow, murky waters of Africa, mainly around Niger.

Temperament / Behavior - Peaceful, but cannot be kept in pairs because the weaker one will be harassed. If you want to keep them in groups, they need to be in 5 or more, so the aggression will be spread out.

Tank Size - 40 or more gallons for one full grown specimen. Tank needs to have an extremely strong, tight hood, because these guys are jumpers

Elephantnose Fish Tank Mates - Anything peaceful, it will not be able to compete for food otherwise. Tetras, angelfish, gouramis, etc. They have also been successfully kept with discus.

Breeding - Very difficult to breed in captivity. Studies have shown that when introduced into aquaria, the electrical organ that is used to find food can get reversed from male to female, making it impossible for even the fish to tell the gender of their tank mates.

Fish Disease - No major diseases that they are susceptible to, but they can be sensitive to even basic medications, so great caution should be used, and instructions read carefully when treating.

Feeding / Diet - They are primarily scavengers, who sense food with their nose, then bring it to their mouth, much like real elephants, except that the mouth is above the trunk, rather than below. They love brine shrimp and bloodworms, frozen or live, but will rarely accept flakes.

Tank Region - Bottom

Gender - Impossible to tell without dissection.
