EASY BETTA BREEDING AT HOME :: STEP BY STEP GUIDE
When attempting to breed any animal, it is important to know as much as you can about the species. we are not professional breeders. We can’t save all the fries but we can try to save as much as possible. I'm just sharing my Experience, it may help somebody. Happy fish keeping friends.
The male gets the female under his bubble nest and they embrace. The female goes into a 'zombie-like' state while the white eggs fall to the ground from her little white ovipositor. The male swim down and scoop them up, putting them one by one into the bubble nest. They may embrace many more times. Watch carefully and when the female release all of her eggs, remove her from the tank.
The male carefully keeps eggs in his bubble nest, making sure none fall to the bottom, repairing the bubble nest as needed.
Treat the breeding tank with any antifungal to prevent fungus from killing the eggs.leave the lights on day and night.
It takes 36-40 hours to hatch all eggs.
look under the bubbles and see tiny hair like things hanging down. the hairy nest is none other than a nest full of fry dandling their little tails down, heads buried deep in bubbles. after a full day or so of this, the fry might settle at the surface, able to float even if the bubbles are gone. Usually they stick together and might find something to "grab on to". if Tails still hanging down, they are not "free swimming" yet.During this entire time, they are feeding off their yolk sac.
When the fry hatch they hang from the bubble nest, and the male replace any that fall. After 2-3 days, the fry begins "free-swimming.
At this point remove the male from the tank and treat him with some antifungal.
Start feeding as soon as the egg sacs are gone. Feed the fry a small portion of live micro worms or micro pallets. I use Hikari micro pellets. Feed twice a day, and watch closely to see how much is eaten.
Restrict the flow of filter with a gang valve so it is barely noticeable. Use a sponge filter.
