Speaker 1: When people often ask us, "Are rabbits nocturnal?". They're worried about being kept up all night with high cage activity, alot of noise, alot of rattling. In fact, rabbits are not nocturnal. Rabbits are what's called crepuscular, which is a fancy word for saying that they're active most often in the early morning and early evening, and...

Amy: Twilight hours!

Speaker 1: Twilight. Twilight and dawn. And they tend to be kind of riding low during the day, just chilling.

Amy: But that's because, because you told me that's when the predators, they can't see them as well.

Speaker 1: That's right. That's why may have survived that way. They're not going to keep you up at night. If you get a rabbit, it's a great pet for people who work during the day out of the home, because what I used to do when I lived in the city was, I'd get up in the morning, and I'd immediately open my rabbit's cage, so he could come out and exercise in the living room and kitchen while I was getting dressed and getting ready for work. And then when I left for work, I'd use a treat for a lure to get him back into his cage, and he'd hop back in. Then he'd kind of sleep during the day, and I'd get home around 5:30 to 6:00pm, and I'd open his cage and he'd be out for the rest of the evening when I was there to supervise. It worked out great. You don't have to feel guilty that your rabbit is just chilling during the day, because they will do that anyway. Amy's rabbit is active at different hours I think...

Amy: 24 hours a day.

Speaker 1: Yeah. But anyway, they're not nocturnal, so if you're thinking of getting a rabbit, and worrying that you'll be kept up all night, you won't. Unless you yourself are a night owl, in which case your rabbit will adapt to your schedule and will be up all night with you. But that's your choice.
