#30 HorseGym with Boots LEADING POSITION 3 DURATION EXERCISE

Dislike 0 Published on 28 Nov 2014

The purpose of all these ways to play with Leading Position Three is to build a lovely habit of loose-rope leading. Once the horse is comfortable in this position due a strong history of reinforcement, we can generalise it to any outing or moving from A to B during daily routines.

It is a super foundation exercise for Horse Agility.

This little exercise is great to do often and can be taught and practiced at liberty. If the horse chooses to leave, it is giving clear feedback. The number of steps to aim for is entirely a matter of choice. Once the horse understands the concept, it is fun to vary the click&treat intervals.

This clip is interesting because it has Boots, who knows this exercise well, and Zoe, who hasn’t played with Boots for 5 years. I also threw her in the deep end and did not do simulations first or even revise the ‘walk on’ and ‘halt’ cues from clip #17.

As usual, there is much more information in the notes than can be put into a five minute clip.
