Lungeing your horse is a great way to build muscle, exercise your horse, check for lameness or to see what kind of mood your horse is in. It's a great tool that I utilize often both in the round pen and on the lunge line. In our previous Horse Training Tips we have been using the round pen to work with the horse, but not everyone has a round pen. Knowing how to lunge correctly will keep both you and your horse safe. In order to start lunging correctly, always wear gloves to prevent rope burn, secure the reins through the throat latch, and attach the line around the inside of the bit and under the chin. Make sure to use the correct lunge whip with a long lash when lungeing. This video will help you know how to safely work with your lungeing equipment.
