Teach a Horse to Stop Precisely - Round Pen Exercise

Dislike 0 Published on 1 Mar 2016

Wouldn't you love it if your horse responded to your thoughts? That may be possible, but the next best thing is a horse that obeys quiet precise little-bitty cues. Success with horses is as easy as getting a "yes" to everything you ask them to do. Before you can tell a horse where to stop you have to be able to get the horse to stop in the first place. This video teaches a simple, quiet, precise exercise to begin to teach your horse how to step when and where you want him to.

The goal of the exercise is getting a horse at liberty to stop precisely between two cones and come when called. The full length video was 14 minutes. This was edited to cut out the really slow stuff. No dust. No angst. No stress. Once you and your horse get the hang of it move the cones closer together and ask for faster gaits.

Another short video is coming soon showing how to use a longe line to teach this exercise more quickly and with more immediate precision.
