Draw a Horse Head in an Hour: Equine Drawing Exercise

This drawing of a horse’s head took only about an hour. The only requirements were an A5 sketchpad, 2B and HB pencils. A ruler, sharpener and eraser will come in useful. I drew a grid upon a rectangle and inserted the horse’s head so that the negative shape can be seen. I then shaded enclosed areas between the reins. Notice odd shaped shadows on the horse’s face. Shading was worked darker as the drawing progresses. The background shading will bring out the highlights.
