Core strengthening exercise for the horse's back

This exercise follows on from carrot stretches, which are used to encourage the horse to activate the abdominal musculature. In this exercise using a carrot as bait, the horse stabilizes the outside (right) hind and lifts the inside (left) hind leg, activating the entire abdominal muscle chain as he is encouraged to reach for the carrot. Hold time is gradually increased to 15 seconds. This is also an excellent exercise for a horse with a functional instability of the pelvis and hind limb articulations (including suboptimal activity of m. biceps femoris).
