This exercise begins at the trot, with 4 poles set at 3, 6, 9 and 12 if the circle were a clock. the goal is to teach your horse rythym. you count the steps between each pole. the ideal number is 8 steps between each pole, for a total number of 32 steps around the entire circle. here, mouse takes between 8 and 9 steps between each pole, since shes pretty much on track, im not going to mess with it. the more she practices, the better she will get and eventually she will be able to get 8 steps consistently. The second half of this exercise is 3 poles, slightly raised off the ground, set one canter stride apart, approx. 3 m apart. the goal is for her to calmly and smoothly canter through the "grid" bouncing through the poles. this is the beginning exercise for jumping gridwork. here mouse does it fairly well. shes a bit quick, but with practice she will slow up and eventually shorten up, as she is a little stretched out as she goes through them.
