Lead Away, Return Exercise

Dislike 0 Published on 13 Apr 2014

An exercise designed to help dogs with separation anxiety begin the process of moving away from their owner with another person. Kathy Cascade demonstrates the exercise with Ponder. The key is to always allow the dog to return to the owner, who remains neutral throughout the exercise. Once the dog realizes they have a choice, anxiety is reduced and the dog develops the confidence to be able to engage with the other person and move further away from the owner. The owner remaining emotionally neutral is also a key to the success of the exercise!
