The balance board is a wonderful tool for conditioning a dog and helping with balance, coordination and core strength. This is usually performed with a non-skid surface to help the dog stabilize. This is a more advanced exercise and should only be performed with dogs that are physically able to handle this kind of exercise. The handler should be prepared to catch the dog in case he/she is unable to balance properly with the board movement.
These exercises are a great way to physically condition your dog but also help strength your bond with them and provide them with mental stimulation. Exercises should only be performed after receiving a diagnosis and prescription for physical rehabilitation from a licensed veterinarian to ensure that the exercises are safe for your pet's particular condition.
