A spectacular anti-terrorism training exercise involving hundreds of soldiers responding to simulated attacks has just wrapped up at the Port of Brisbane.

It was a reminder of the Australian Defence Force's strength with the terrorism alert level at high and the G20 summit just 18 days away, when more than 900 Australian forces will be on standby, prepared for the worst.

"The type of niche support we are providing are engineers to conduct building search, explosive detection dogs for searching, waterways search (and) our counter-terrorist capability," Major General Stuart Smith, the ADF's spokesman for the G20, said.
