Golden Retrievers are intelligent and loyal dogs. As their name indicates, They were bred to be retriever dogs. There was a dire need for a dog breed that can retrieve the fallen prey from both lands and water, Golden Retriever does this job efficiently.
Golden Retrievers have a unique characteristic called “Soft mouth” which means they can retrieve the fallen game undamaged and unspoiled.
Golden Retrievers are relatively a new breed of dog, developed in the late 19th century in Scotland. Lord Tweedmouth is considered as the creator of GR dog. Cross breeding of a yellow flat coated retriever with a water spaniel resulted in the formation of modern-day GR dogs. At first, they were called Golden flat-coated retriever due to their color variation from their parent yellow retrievers. later they gained their own identity in 1903.
The UK kennel club registered the first breed in 1903. The AKC registered the breed in 1925 and placed it in sporting dogs group.
