In this video we are showing how we made our Ocicat an Octagonal Exercise Wheel.

*NOTE: If you decide to make one for yourself using our information, we are not liable. This is only a demonstration of how we made ours.

If you do decide to make your own wheel, please tell us about it and share a picture. We would love to see how it turned out for you.

Because Tigger is a large cat we decided to make his wheel out of a 4' x 8' x 3/4" sheet of plywood. If you are going to try to make this, you may want to use 1/2" or 5/8" thick plywood or whatever material you choose.

We laid the plywood on two saw horses to make it easier to get our measurements.
Then we measured and marked the sheet in 2' increments.
We measured to find the center mark and placed a screw in the center temporarily, you will see why in the video.
Using something to give a straight edge, we marked the square on the first 4' section of the plywood.
Each of these marks were measured to make sure the distance was equal on all four sections.
Measuring from one point to another, half the distance was 18 1/4", made a mark.
Repeated that step all the way around the square, giving us our octagon.
Using the tab on the end of the tape measure, we extended the tape so that we could mark off a 2' from center circle.
We could have stopped there and had a perfect round wheel and figured out some way to make a rounded tread surface for him to run on.
Because of his length, we decided to make it an octagon to keep his back from being swayed or arched in the wrong direction. Basically for his comfort and to avoid potential injury.
This is part 1 of a series of videos. We broke it up to keep you from getting bored. Also it would be a very long video.

We hope that you will watch the whole series.
