Cats & Dogs / Cat Cow - Egoscue Method

Cats & Dogs is such a powerful exercise, but frequently not performed quite as intended.

This is primarily a PELVIC mobiliser, and the spine follows. Don't lead with your upper back, feel the ripple up your spine from your pelvis.

Watch your elbows - an easy cheat so locked shoulder stay locked.

1.) Come to quadriped (all fours). Hands under shoulders and knees under hips (you're narrower than you think).

2.) Roll the inner (fleshy) side of your elbows to face each other. Don't let them face forwards - this is hyperextension. Control this throughout.

3.) Leading FROM YOUR PELVIS, roll your pelvis forwards (anteriorly - arch in lower back) and the rest of the spine follows. Roll your shoulder blades back and down and pull them behind you as you lift your head slightly.

4.) Leading FROM YOUR PELVIS, roll your pelvis backwards (posteriorly - arching like a cat) and the rest of the spine follows.

Don't go forwards and backwards - this is an up and down movement. Watch if your elbows want to twist and turn - they shouldn't need to if your shoulders are doing their job properly.
