Today is the last day of the duck’s lockdown, I’m going to let them free range starting tomorrow.

They have been totally calm and relaxed in the pen with no false alarms, the way they are relaxing in the pen tells me it’s been days since they have been tormented by anything in the yard. They don’t even get excited when Dug goes near the pen, which during the reign of terror by the fox when Dug would go near the pen the ducks would freak out.

I honestly think that the single shot I got off at the fox that night in the dark was a hit and Mr. Fox crawled off into the bush and died, there has been absolutely no sign of him in days.

His trail in the swamp is even starting to grow over down by the snare, I’ve noticed the grass is growing up around the snare so there has been no traffic from Mr. Fox on the trail.

Bad news today though I’ve been noticing this one Muscovy female from last year’s flock has been looking really rough the last 2 weeks, her feathers look terrible and she was always hanging around by herself. Well today I found her in the shed and one of her legs had paralyses and she couldn’t move. I put her in the bath tub for some fresh water and see if she could move, came back an hour later and she was beside the bath tub and now both her legs were limp.

When I picked her up I couldn’t believe how small she was, I could feel all her bones in her chest, she had lost a ton of weight. On the way over to the chopping block her head flopped over her neck was limp and she wasn’t long for this world, when I chopped her head off with the axe she had no nerve spasms.
