Mr. Fox didn’t show up last night the ducks had a nice quite night, no freaking out at all.
But today I’m doing an armed morning rush to the lake, the obviously need an escort to the lake because they keep getting freaked out half way to the creek and coming back to the yard.
I went a head of the ducks during the morning rush and stood at the half way point to give them a sense of security in the swamp, they seem to associate me with safety so will see if this works.
I had to double back because half the flock got freaked out again and headed back to the yard.
After a lot of running I finally got the ducks back on the path to the creek, I felt like Dug running back and forth I really could of used him this morning but I’ve got to let his foot heal first.
You could hear the ducks at the lake quacking up a storm, they love it at the lake so much I’ve got to get rid of this predator problem so the ducks feel safe going to the lake.
I went down to the lake to see them having fun on the water after morning rush and sure enough as soon as I got down to the lake the ducks started to head back up the creek towards the swamp.
Less than 3 hours later the ducks were back in the yard again, these poor ducks are so scared of everything but then again we’ve had so many predator problems this year I can understand.
Dug and I had to do a quick run to town today, we were only gone for less than an hour but when we got back Dug went nuts running all through the swamp, he was so worked up he wouldn’t listen to me. The ducks were all close to the house when we returned so I knew something was up i.e. Mr. Fox had been here and the fact that Dug was running the swamp like a mad dog he must still be close.
I decide to finish the clear cutting I started yesterday, so I spent the afternoon on the end of the bush trimmer and the chainsaw and got rid of all the cover the fox is using to hunt the ducks.
At the end of the day I discovered a fresh killed duck right were I was working all afternoon, when Dug and I got home we must of caught the fox in action and spooked him away leaving his fresh kill. This explains why Dug has been running the swamp and bush all afternoon he could smell the fox, the wind was blowing off the lake all day so this makes perfect sense.
I got my new scope today while I was in town actually that was the reason I went to town in the first place, so Mr. Fox is going to have a hard time now, a lot less hiding spots and a new laser scope his days are now officially numbered in single digits.
