6;00 am snapping turtle hunting in the swamp, not the way I wanted to start my day off but I’ve got no choice. Spent 2 hours in the swamp with not a sign of the snapping turtle, took the boat out and couldn’t see anything in lake or down the creek. Going to have to set bait lines to catch this killer snapping turtle of the ducks.
My day started really early today at 4;00 am the ducks were going crazy in the pen, and I mean crazy it was unbelievably loud it was so loud it permanently woke me up for the day. Something was in the yard and the ducks were letting me know, it must have been in the yard for a while because the ducks didn’t stop quacking until around 5 am.
I was working in the kitchen and the ducks came running up the house around the back deck just freaking out, I could tell instantly something was seriously wrong I ran outside with the binoculars to take a look down at the swamp and there was a fox cutting across the swamp near the creek.
I ran back inside the house and got the shot gun out of the safe, but by the time I got back outside the fox was hiding in the bush around the house. The ducks were still freaking out and pointing into the bush but I couldn’t get a view of the fox at all, he was hiding pretty well. The ducks ended up hanging around the yard all day and wouldn’t go into the swamp at all the rest of the day.
I moved their water and food into the yard so they could stay near the house for safety and give me a better chance of shooting the fox if he came back to get a duck.
I wasn’t planning on doing any filming today as I had a ton of work to get done, but Mother Nature changed the script today of the Duck Adventure. I have to go to town today no matter what so if the fox returns I’m going to lose a duck like it or not.
So now the ducks are under protective care once again, but this time in the yard and not locked up in the pen. Just too many ducks to lock them up in the pen until I get the fox, I’m just going to have to hunt this fox more aggressively and end this reign of terror.
The fox didn’t seem to return later in the day, I think when I saw him he’d already gotten himself a duck down in the swamp, based on the last time more than likely the fox is going to return in 2-3 days to get another duck.
When I was in town I picked up another 4 boxes of 12 gauge OO Buck Shot and an ammo belt for the stock of the shotgun so I don’t have to carry shells in my pockets and this way the shot gun is always ready for me when the fox returns.
