muddy duck rescue - Squeaker as a baby being fed.

Squeaker is about 3 weeks old and has to be fed every 2 hours while young as he can't hold much food in his 'crop' - a pouch below his mouth and before his stomach. As he gets older the intervals of feeding are lengthened to 3 hours, then 4 hours. So how do you know how much to feed?! I uses a mx of same amount of porridge to baby bird mixture mixed with warm water, after a few minutes you will need to add more water. it needs to be slightly runny so you can use a vets syringe (with end cut off) to take up the mixture. You hold the head and keep syringing it down until he shakes his head, the 'crop' will be very full. he will need to be kept at house room temperature until he starts to flap his wings. If you keep him in a cage like a large budgie one, put a light bulb high up and a towel over the top leave front partly open so it does not get too hot. He will only start to drink when he is feeding on his own, there is enough water in the food till then. For more information look up Pigeon rescue on face book or a web site.
