Muscovy ducklings in Phoenix!

This is the "first fruits" of my foray into raising muscovy ducks and so far so good! The female shown with the ducklings is mom and she sat on 18 eggs and hatched all 18 of them two days ago on march 13th, 2015, holy cow. I have 2 more nests and moms to sit on them. 3 females and one male. I anticipate upwards of 50 ducklings yikes! They all will be harvested for meat. I am looking at investing in a poultry defeathering machine since my goal is long term sustainability of home based food production. Defeathering them all by hand will be daunting and not what I'm think will be viable for me. Muscovies are quackless and very quiet 99% of the time. Perfect for urban raising. Couple that with being great mothers who set on there own eggs, there is no need for a brooder setup or incubator. If you're looking for home based meat or egg production, look no further. Bye Bye noisy chickens who can't give me meat in the city (because of "no rooster" ordinances) Here come the Muscovy ducks! Don't wait if you want to raise clean healthy meat in the city or anywhere else. Craig's list is the place to find them (or your local feed and tack store for leads to finding them. Enjoy the video and get that urban farm started! Just FYI, during any kind of panic or interruption in the supply chain of your local food store there is 3 days or less of food on the shelves at any given time. Start growing your own food soon! I'll get off my soap box now. Take care.
