Pekin Duck Information - The Pekin duck is a domesticated duck which probably is the best choice for a family pet. Some might even argue that a Pekin Duck will be a better pet than dogs! Pekin ducks are "pettable," silly, and they want to be around their family. In fact, after we have played with our pet ducks, and we leave, Donald ( the drake) starts making a squaking type of noise, and Daisy starts quacking. We keep our two Pekin Ducks, Donald and Daisy in the backyard..

One of the first steps, to buying a duck is to see what duck you would like. Some domesticated ducks have different behaviors. If you want a family pet, and having pet ducks is new for you, the Pekin duck is the duck for you. In fact, our Donald and Daisy are Pekin ducks. Pekin ducks do look similar, but there are some ways to tell if your Pekin duck is male or a female. If you want your duck for eggs, the Khaki Campbell, White Crested Duck, Magpie, and Welsh Harlequin can also be good egg layers and friendly as well. The Indian Runner duck is also a good egg layer, but has a reputation to be moody. If you want your duck for a pretty, long- term addition to your backyard, you can by the shiny and green Cayuga. Of course, you would have to make your Cayuga a shelter to protect your pretty duck against predators. None of the duck types listed can fly, so don't worry about having to clip their wings. However, a cute and small type of duck, called the Call duck, can fly, but if you're prepared for clipping your Call ducks' wings, you can keep the Call duck as a cute pet. Keep in mind that Call ducks are loud, and your neighbors might get annoyed. Other ducks that can be pets are the Mallard, Muscovy, and Rouen.
