Video Description Below
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This morning Ms. Icecovy got off her nest, this is the first time in a couple of days that I've seen her coming out of the nesting box she has been in full blown brooding mode sitting on the nest. Now is our chance to see what she has been sitting on egg wise.
Soon realized poor Ms. Icecovy the Muscovy female duck was in serious trouble, something has gone wrong and she can't walk anymore her right leg has gone limp and has no muscle control at all. She is struggling to move around the hospital slash nursery; this is not good we've got a serious problem to deal with now.
It looks like her leg has gone to sleep it's so limp, absolutely no control at all it's just hanging there it doesn't look infected, there is some black dead areas on the webbing of her feet but the leg looks normal colour. The foot that had the most damage to it from the frost bite is fine which makes even less sense, it should be the leg she should have a problem with not the right leg.
I prepared her warm bath to wash her feet and do a medical examination of her legs and prepare her for another treatment, but this time when I put her into the tub of warm water she didn't do anything, she just laid there in the water normally she goes crazy and bathes herself today she does nothing.
On top of all of this now when I try to go near her to pick her up she shows quite an aversion towards me, she doesn't want me to touch her this is the complete opposite to her normal behaviour towards me. Something is seriously wrong with out little female Muscovy duck; I've got some serious medical work a head of me today.
During the very quick and brief egg recon today I realized I had another medical emergency to deal with which I had totally forgot about, I've got a female Pekin duck with an eye and or sinus infection to deal with. Poor little duck is seriously infected and I absolutely have to take care of her today, her eyes look terrible and she has to be in discomfort.
I caught the poor little Pekin female duck with the eye infection and brought her up to the hospital so I could clean her eyes and get a treatment process under way for her.
I called my Veterinarian to talk to him about Ms. Icecovy and her paralysis in her leg, he thinks it might be an infection from the frostbite damage has gone into her muscles in her leg and suggests treating her with broad spectrum antibiotics. Also after further research I discovered Muscovy female ducks can get Botulism while they are sitting on their nests, I couldn't find out why but it's a possibility, so I let the Vet know about this also when I was at the Vet hospital, he gave me some antibiotics specially for treating Botulism.
So Ms. Icecovy the Muscovy female duck is going to get treated with 2 types of antibiotics so we cover our bases with her. The Vet also recommends the Pekin female duck with the eye infection that I treat her with antibiotics also while I'm treating Ms. Icecovy, plus the Polysporine eye drops I have will also help the Pekin female duck.
The Duck Hospital is now a very busy place again, unfortunately the fact that Ms. Icecovy the female Muscovy duck hasn't sat on her eggs now in over 10 hours the Muscovy duck egg hatching adventure in the back room of the house has to be scrapped now. I have to focus on saving Ms. Icecovy right now and egg hatching isn't important at this point anymore.
I did an autopsy on the Muscovy eggs and all of them were fertile and had started to develop, all the eggs had development in the egg yokes.
