Traffic came to a stop Thursday afternoon on Beltway 8 northbound at Highway 290 as drivers got out of their vehicles to save a group of ducklings running across the lanes.
Unfortunately, the mother duck was hit by a car and died. Eleven of the chicks were taken to Texas Parks and Wildlife Center of Texas on Old Katy Road.
"We've got them in a very quiet, very warm place," said Debbie Mitchell with the Wild Life Center of Texas. "We raise hundreds of these little guys every year, so they have a great chance of making it."
The experts say it will be about three months before the little ducks will be ready to take care of themselves.
