The Saxony duck is a hardy all-purpose duck breed in the heavy size class. Albert Franz of Chemitz (East Germany) began developing the Saxony duck in 1930. He used Rouen, German Pekin, and Blue Pomeranian ducks in his breeding program. Through the efforts of Dave Holderread, the Saxony duck was accepted to the American Poultry Association (APA) in 2000.
