Last night it did go down to -30°C and you could hear the wind outside so I have no doubt the windchill was -45°C or worse.
All I know the 40 mins or so it took to catch the ducks late last night to move them into the barn with a slight breeze my cheeks of my face still hurt today.
The ducks are on complete lock down in the barn for the next 48 hours or more if this weather continues.
Now with the discovery of another frostbite victim I've got to come up with something in the barn to keep the Muscovy inside out of the element, all of them this breed can't handle the cold at all.
The ducks drank about 8 gallons of water in less than 10 hours in the barn last night the poor little ducks were dehydrated big time in the lock down in the shed.
But today they came through with 24 eggs so the barn must of made them feel good and less stressed.
The 2 Muscovy female ducks that got the frostbite are in the hospital in the back room of the house, I'm doing more treatments today to help them heal. The first Muscovy I discovered is improving and it's only been about 36-48 hours, so there might be hope for her.
The Polysporin anitbotic cream seems to be helping the open sores on the frostbite feet to heal.
I swear by this stuff if works on humans, dogs and seems to be doing the job for the ducks also
